Someone walked across the Manila Film Center building in the mid-1990s, when he was approached
by a man who later gave him a phone card. The man told him to contact his family, telling them that
he was fine and will be free soon. People that follow all the commands of the man.
When the family contacted the man, he got word that is quite astonishing. The family says that he is
a husband who had died right on the spot about ten years ago.
This story is arguably not so strange when it comes to Manila Film Center. Buildings in 1982 is
intended as the main stage of the Manila International Film Festival first. This film festival is the
brainchild of someone who later became a Philippine first lady, Imelda Marcos.
Marcos is someone who loves life of luxury, and would like his lifestyle was reflected in all his
work, his work, and also the views of his country. Some will say Marcos a very ambitious, with not
enough time to give this project to set up a building that would menghelat Fesival the film. However,
the plan has to be implemented.
The appearance of the building was inspired by the Parthenon, and the location is in an area above
the sea end of the Pasay City. 'The new Mainland' is not strong enough to hold the weight of the
structure, so the foundation is then made such that it is believed to strengthen the mainland.
Development then keep going according to plan, but Marcos did some changes to cause delays and
reportedly ignoring safety standards. Even so, with the abundant treasures in hand, the miracle come
to possible, and not take a long time more and more construction workers working on the site.
A camp was built, where workers and their families fraction can live to be able to watch them every
time.
For the sake of the rate of development, and to meet tight deadlines, more than 4000 construction
workers hired at the three sessions, 24 hours a day. Some parts of the building that is supposed to
require six weeks resolved only by three days. Of course, it is something that is too forced and
compelled usually what it will end badly. And rightly so.
At about 3 pm on November 17, 1981, a tragedy occurred. Most of the foundation of the ceiling of
the building collapsed, and hit at least 169 workers underneath. Instead, help the lives of the poor,
contact reinforcements, or anything to help those people out, Imelda Marcos, and also some of his
subordinates instead ordered the security forces to seal the area so that no one in, no reinforcements,
or whatever.
Area was then closed for nine hours until anyone is allowed to enter it to help those who are still
alive. Many lives have been lost as a result of the collapse, and perhaps even more reinforcements
due to no man can enter into it.
Many rumors about what happened during the area closed for hours. Some say the investigation is
being done to find the cause of the collapse of the building, and Marcos worry of sabotage on the
part of the developer after seeing thirteen ceiling foundation was truncated. Most people were saying
that Marcos worried that the construction will not be completed on time, and fesitval movie will be
canceled. Fear of disgrace, she instead request made more concrete mixtures, to hide the evidence of
the incident. In the end, the bodies of construction workers was backfilled with cement and be
flattened buildings makes it like a grave.
With so many people are injured and killed from this tragedy, the actual number is never revealed.
But according to those who were at the scene, there were more lives lost than estimated. Building
ceiling collapsed and also hit the camp, killing several construction workers and their families. There
are many lives have also been fused into a layer of freshly poured concrete at the scene.
Eliodoro Ponio, who works there, was interviewed in a television show, said that all the bodies that
were there already closed and describe even a finger nail is not left in there. All workers were
buried with the best.
Manila Film Center when the construction was finally completed in time for the film festival, films
like 'Body Heat', 'Gallipoli', and '36 Chowringhee Lane 'from India last played this Indian film won
best picture.
After the festival, the building was incorporated into the national film archives to an earthquake
struck in the 1990s, led to the building is damaged and abandoned. Abandoned for a decade, the
building is eventually used as a stage show 'Amazing Show', a transgender event held the Amazing
Philippines Theatre.
Some people who visit this place may not know the history of the building. The tragedy of the loss of
many lives, and souls trapped beneath their feet. Strange events that occurred not only stranger who
asked the visitors to contact their families, and said the situation was fine but there are many other
paranormal events. Moans-groan and moan lament often also been reported, out of the building
foundation. Sightings also appear before the visitor, slipping out from under the floor. People who
practice or clean the place was also always report the times when they feel claustrophobic when they
are inside, felt something invisible that is present in their midst.
Some psychics do rituals to connect with the dead there, most of which did not get a friendly
welcome, rejection after rejection, terrifying paranormal activity, as well as poltergeist activity also
occurs in some rituals are performed.
A psychic perform the ritual expulsion there and managed to contact some spirits who inhabit the
place. On this occasion, the psychic claimed to get a reply from some of the spirits that were there.
Said that they would go if their story is told that an unknown person. Even so, not all want it, some
of them can no longer be separated from that place. Soul and their stories captured there, haunting
the place forever.
